Pershing Square in DTLA is full of public art. One of these is the statue "The Doughboy", a tribute to WW1 soldiers. A common explanation for the term "doughboy" for a World War I soldier is that it comes from the Spanish-American War of 1846-48 where American infantrymen, after long treks over dusty terrain, had the appearance of being covered in flour dough [source: History.com]. After Pershing Square, we will ride two blocks to California Market and the Go Get Em Tiger coffee shop, for a mid-ride treat. The coffee shop has seating and it is visible from the street. Bring a bike lock for added peace of mind.
